CLASS
DESCRIPTIONS

  • Yoga Nidra: or yogic sleep is a practice where students are led to the space between being awake and asleep.  Students are guided through verbal cues while lying on their back and has profound healing effects aiding in anxiety, depression and PTSD, just to name a few.
  • Candle-Lit Flow: a traditional flow class that links breath and movements together.  Candles will be our light as it helps create a state of calm and peace.
  • Restorative Yoga: uses props to hold the body in positions ranging 5 minutes or more. The only movement done is that between poses, no sweating, no intensity, a very passive class.  In our busy, busy world, this practice seeks to bring balance and relaxation to the body and mind by giving ourselves permission to simply be.
  • Sunrise Flow:  This class guides us through sun salutations, twists, backbends, and intention setting meditation, all aiding in preparing the body and mind for the day.  Early morning practice has been done for centuries due to the lack of outward distraction, leading to deeper clarity, creativity and peace.
  • Flow Yoga: This class focuses on connecting breath to movement, building heat, strength and flexibility.  The sych of breath and movement creates mental steadiness in practice.
  • Wednesday Wake-Up: A series of breathwork, and meditation to get the mind over the Wednesday hump.
  • Chair Yoga: is a gentle form of yoga that is done sitting in a chair or using the chair as support in standing postures.
  • Beginner Yoga: The beginner class introduces the fundamental principles of alignment and breath work in a flow of postures linked together by the breath. Students will be introduced to yoga postures through step-by-step verbal description and demonstration. Emphasis is placed on student understanding, safety, and stability within each pose. Gradually these poses will be linked together into a gentle flowing sequence. If you have never tried yoga this is the class for you, designed to meet the needs of those new to yoga as well as those seeking continued understanding of basic yoga poses. Students are welcome to repeat this class as often as they like.
  • PiYo LIVE!:  Fun challenging class using Yoga and Pilates, you will burn calories, tone muscles, work on balance and get a great stretch. The class is a little different each time but you will get a great workout. PiYo is a trademarked online program, LIVE means there is a teacher present guiding you through movements.
  • Happy Hour Flow: Traditional flow class where we focus on releasing the work week and prepare the body and mind for the weekend!
  • SoulFull Sunday: Sound is an incredible form of healing, it can lead us into deeper states of consciousness. A traditional flow class linked with music that awakens the heart and soul!
  • Sunday Slowdown: The weekends can be hectic with running with the kids, trying to have as much fun as possible in 48 hours, or organizing for the week to come. This class is a blend of Restorative, Yoga Nidra, Meditation and Breathing exercises to slow it down a bit.  We are more productive beings when we give ourselves a good reset.  End your weekend well, and start you week refreshed.

MEET THE TEACHERS

SIKHONA
PEGGY
MICHELE
From birth, Sikhona embodied an excitement of being alive, a presence of peace, and a spirit to serve. However, as she grew older, the essence of who she was began to diminish.  Worldly standardization of sameness lead her to bouts of depression, addiction, and extreme self hate.  She used any thing around in order to not feel the suffering and hurt within.

Sikhona (Emily) is a South Buffalo native, who recently relocated back to the area.  While away for 7 years, she was reintroduced to the practice of yoga. Yoga for her, is more than poses and body movements, it is a way to explore ones self fully and to connect deeper to life experiences.

Sikhona believes power resides in feeling. You will find her classes to be more meditative, anatomically focused, and suitable for all levels. Beyond yoga she is also a Reiki therapist, holistic chef, as well as our studio manager.  She was given the name Sikhona, meaning "I am here" and she is honored and excited to be with NU!

Peggy's  health and wellness journey began about a year and a half ago.  She began doing PiYo at home as a way to relieve joint and muscle pain. As she was working through this program, she realized the improvement in her strength, flexibility and alignment. The PiYo program helped her so much that she decided to become an instructor. PiYo is a combination of pilates and yoga. It is low impact, but high intensity. PiYo can help you to improve your posture, alignment and
flexibility.

As a PiYo instructor, she will help you to master the moves so that you can gain the most flexibilitand improve your alignment. She will demonstrate each move first and show you the options that you can choose to make the pratice work for you. No workout or exercise experience is necessary to reap the benefits of PiYo! Peggy looks forward to working with everyone who is looking to better their health and wellness!
